Nearly all occupations our graduates might enter require computer competence and fluency. The more comfortable and skilled the job applicant is at using computers, the greater edge he or she will have over the others competing for the same position.
All students at Gramon will become computer literate, and with this in mind, we have invested in the development of a school-wide network. Every student has his or her own, dedicated workstation. When students arrive at school in the morning, they use their workstations to log in on the school's network. From there they may access notes from their teachers and begin their studies.
The Gramon Technology Program includes:
Orientation to the PC and Keyboarding Skills - For students new to the computer and/or network, a brief orientation program is provided by the teacher, followed by an introduction to a keyboarding program designed to help students learn and increase their speed at touch-typing.
Computer Aided Instruction - The school has a collection of over 150 licensed programs designed to assist students in nearly every subject area including reading, writing, math, science, social studies, art, and health. Teachers guide students to particular programs that match their educational needs.
Internet/World Wide Web - Students are taught how to use search engines, and are guided in a variety of research tasks related to the class's current studies. Through the Web, students can access primary sources for social studies, reading, science and art classes.
Applications Mastery - Students use MS Word and WordPerfect, MS Excel, and MS Access as their basic tools in the classroom. In addition, art classes use PhotoShop, Printshop, and similar graphics programs.
