Curriculum - Academics

AcademicsThe Gramon School is committed to helping our students gain the skills, confidence, pride and initiative necessary for them to become and to see themselves as worthwhile contributing members of society. Therefore, our classes address students' social/emotional needs as well as their academic needs.

Supportive and responsive individual, small group, and multimodal instruction that uses diagnostic as well as direct teaching techniques are stressed. Materials are evaluated and modified as appropriate for each student, and new strategies are implemented in order to best stimulate and encourage our students to fulfill their potential.

The New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards are incorporated throughout our classes. Within each area, the standards are adapted and modified to address the particular needs of our students.

The Accelerated Reading and Accelerated Math programs are central to our individualized instructional program. These programs, along with many others, take advantage of the school’s electronic infrastructure. With a computer for each student, the school is able to personalize instruction while at the same time preparing our students to make use of the computer as a tool and a resource. Our students can create electronic portfolios, e-mail assignments to their teacher, participate in activities via a class website and participate in webquests. They can complete a virtual dissection of a frog or take a virtual tour of the pyramids of Egypt. Students also take pictures with digital cameras and create slide shows.

We share the belief that instruction should go beyond the basic skills to prepare our students for the challenges of the world beyond our walls to learn by problem solving, critical thinking, and using technology as a tool in everyday life.
